What is SEANOL? |
| SEANOL is a polyphenol complex extracted from a particular seaweed called Ecklonia cava, which grows off the coasts of Japan, Korea and China. Over $35 million dollars in the past 14 years has been spent on research supporting SEANOL's development. This research has led to the discovery of several amazing properties of SEANOL, including weight loss, cholesterol support, improved blood flow, memory improvement, anti-inflammation, and anti-oxidation. All of these benefits have been verified by testing. There are several patent applications filed in both Asia and the United States related to SEANOL and its applications. Learn more about Seanol® in our SEANOL Science summary or by visiting www.jprenew.com |
Is SEANOL safe? |
| SEANOL is very safe. SEANOL is a food substance, not a pharmaceutical or other synthetic product. People in Asia have been consuming the seaweed from which SEANOL is extracted for centuries. Other SEANOL-based products have been selling in Asia and the US for over four years. Tens of thousands of dosages have been taken over this period with no known negative effects. The University of Washington in Seattle conducted a major study of SEANOL and included in their report that they found no toxic effects. A toxicity study on rats was performed for the Korean FDA, with no adverse effects. SEANOL was recently approved for import into Japan after being subjected to a very rigorous approval process that required passing strict safety testing by an independent laboratory.
In the Fibronol clinical study, some fibromyalgia patients with pre-existing IBS conditions experienced increased diarrhea. Finally, we have conducted our own pre-clinical and clinical tests in the US and Korea and found no safety issues. |
Why does SEANOL provide efficacy for a relatively long time? |
| SEANOL’s potency is partially derived from its “bi-polar” chemical characteristics. This means that it has both “hydrophilic” (water soluble) and “hydrophobic” (not water soluble) polyphenol/phlorotannin elements. Hydrophilic polyphenols, including those found in land-based plants (e.g., catechins from green tea, resveratrol from grapes, etc.) are metabolized and efficacious for a relatively short period of time. However, some of the polyphenol/phlorotannin elements in SEANOL are “hydrophobic” and the systemic efficacy in the blood stream of these water-insoluble elements –- not currently found in any land-based polyphenol-carrying plant – may last up to 12 hours, a relatively long period of time. Hence, this unique “bi-polar” effect of SEANOL tends to provide relatively long periods of efficacy, including a quick “boost” from the water-soluble polyphenols followed by a sustained “lift” from the non-water soluble polyphenols found in this novel food compound. |

What is the difference between Fibronol and FibroBoost? |
Fibronol is formulated for the relief of multiple symptoms common to fibromyalgia so it contains our patented seaweed extract, SEANOL, plus aloe vera, magnesium, malic acid, and vitamin B-1. Each of these ingredients is included to provide some assistance to the body to help relieve one symptom or another. FibroBoost contains only SEANOL and none of the other ingredients in Fibronol that might cause discomfort for some individuals. The specific ingredients of each are:
- Each capsule of Fibronol includes: 200mg SEANOL (marine algae polyphenol extract), 40mg malic acid, 30mg aloe vera, 10mg vitamin B-1, 3 mg magnesium, other ingredients (vegetable cellulose [preservative-free, from capsule shell], cellulose, magnesium stearate). There is also a small amount (well below recommended levels) of iodine that occurs naturally in the algae that SEANOL is extracted from. It is not an added ingredient.
- Each capsule of FibroBoost includes: 400mg SEANOL (marine algae polyphenol extract), other ingredients (vegetable cellulose [preservative-free, from capsule shell], cellulose, magnesium stearate). There is also a small amount (well below recommended levels) of iodine that occurs naturally in the algae that SEANOL is extracted from. It is not an added ingredient.

What dosage should I be taking?
For individuals with fibromyalgia, we recommend that everyone first try 5-6 Fibronol capsules per day, preferably two or three capsules at meals. If however, you have a sensitive stomach or Irritable Bowel Syndrome (in particular, diarrhea), you should likely start with 3 capsules of Fibronol daily and increase your dosing over a one week period to determine if you are going to have any reactions to the product. If you are finding that Fibronol has only a mild or no impact on your symptoms, we recommend that you take up to 10 or 12 Fibronol capsules or 6 capsules of Fibronol plus 2-3 capsules of FibroBoost every day. Clinical trial participants taking 12 Fibronol capsules a day directionally tended to have more improvements in their quality of life. For fibromyalgia patients suffering from a pre-existing IBS conditions, half of the regular recommended dose (i.e., 3 capsules/day) of Fibronol with a supplementation of 2-3 capsules/day of FibroBoost is recommended. However, fibromyalgia patients with pre-existing IBS conditions should gradually build up their dosage levels of Fibronol and/or FibroBoost to avoid potential aggravation of their IBS symptoms and to understand their individual dosage thresholds or tolerances. Finally, for FM patients whose body weight exceeds 175 pounds, we recommend supplementation of regular Fibronol dosing with 1-3 FibroBoost capsules daily, in order to optimize their quality of life improvement.
For all others the recommended doses are 3-4 FibroBoost or 5-6 Fibronol capsules per day. It is also advisable to split daily doses into a morning and an evening dose preferably taken before a meal

Why should I consider taking FibroBoost? |
FibroBoost is our SEANOL-only product that we recommend for individuals other than those with fibromyalgia. The numerous benefits delivered by SEANOL’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties include the promotion of overall cardiovascular health, enhanced blood flows, and healthy blood sugar levels.
FibroBoost is also a product that we recommend be taken as a supplement to Fibronol for episodes of discomfort (“bad” days) or “fibro-fog” or when periods of increased energy are required. The primary benefits of FibroBoost include improved sleep quality along with increased energy and comfort levels. In addition, unlike Fibronol, FibroBoost does not include magnesium that in some instances may aggravate symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) – in particular, diarrhea. Plus, if your body weight exceeds 175 pounds, FibroBoost supplementation represents a means of optimizing your quality of life improvements with minimal effect on dosing compliance.

How does Fibronol work? |
| As shown in clinical trials and in general, for most patients, Fibronol helps to improve sleep patterns, increase energy levels and increase comfort levels of people suffering from fibromyalgia. These health benefits arise from the potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of SEANOL, the primary active ingredient in Fibronol. |
Are Fibronol and FibroBoost better than other products for fibromyalgia? |
There really are no other products on the market that address the safe management of the multiple symptoms associated with fibromyalgia, with proven clinical results comparable to Fibronol. FM patients often take a large number of prescription, over-the-counter and dietary or herbal supplements to try to make some headway against these multiple symptoms. It is not unusual for fibromyalgia patients to take 12 to 50 pills of various types a day. Neither Fibronol nor FibroBoost should provide any toxicity load to the functioning of your liver (i.e., no hepatotoxicity). Because Fibronol addresses multiple nutritional needs, it may allow patients to get by on fewer supplements, which will promote better overall health. In any event, Fibronol and FibroBoost are intended as “adjunct” supplements to your current symptom management program, meaning that you need not risk altering what has proven to work for you. You are just supplementing it with Fibronol and FibroBoost to gain improved quality of life.
Also, our products are based on a strong scientific foundation and unlike most other dietary supplements, our products have gone through rigorous clinical testing, even though these tests are not required for dietary supplements.
Can I or should I give up my current medications? |
No. You should not change any medication plan prescribed by your physician. Fibronol and FibroBoost are intended to supplement the symptom management program you have developed with your physician. You and your physician together should determine whether you no longer require some of the other supplements you have been taking. Every person is different, so some may be able to reduce other treatments in time, while some may find that just adding Fibronol or FibroBoost to what they are already taking is the most effective way forward in improving their quality of life.
What pre-existing medical conditions might make it not appropriate to take Fibronol or FibroBoost? |
The existence of pre-existing medical conditions such as: pregnancy, gastrointestinal or esophageal disease, colitis, interstitial cystitis, dysfunctional epithelium, coronary heart disease, active cancer, hemophilia, or certain rare auto-immune diseases may constitute contraindications for both Fibronol and FibroBoost. Individuals with such pre-conditions should consult with their physician prior to considering taking either or both of these nutraceutical supplements. |
Is there iodine in Fibronol or FibroBoost? |
There is also a small amount (well below recommended levels) of iodine that occurs naturally in the algae that SEANOL is extracted from. It is not an added ingredient. Individuals with iodine sensitivities should consult with their physician before taking either product and should consider slowly building up to the recommended dosage levels to determine if they will have any reactions to the product. |

I’ve been taking Fibronol for (X) weeks now but I’m still suffering a lot of pain. I thought Fibronol was supposed to relieve my pain. Why isn’t it working? |
Generally improved sleep patterns and higher energy levels follow soon after one begins taking Fibronol. We expect that comfort levels might increase gradually over time. Since many fibromyalgia patients have experienced discomfort for years, it may be difficult to realize incremental improvements while experiencing significant improvements in sleep and energy levels. Some patients have mentioned that they were not aware that Fibronol had improved their comfort until they went off Fibronol for a few days and their discomfort levels increased. Improvement in the quality of life with fibromyalgia will really depend upon the individual.
There have been instances where increased doses of Fibronol or FibroBoost have contributed to improvement in comfort levels. If you are taking 6 Fibronol capsules a day, you might consider increasing the dosage up to 12 capsules a day or add 2-3 FibroBoost capsules to your regular dosage of 6 Fibronol capsules. Once you have established an improved baseline in comfort at a moderate dose, we recommend trying a few weeks at the higher dosage (i.e., either more Fibronol capsules, or the addition of 2-3 capsules/day of FibroBoost) to see how your overall symptom management fares. |
What impact will Fibronol have upon my Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms? |
| Many fibromyalgia patients suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) characterized by frequent diarrhea or constipation -- often going back and forth between the two. Fibronol includes magnesium and aloe vera as ingredients and there is some concern that either one can aggravate pre-existing diarrhetic conditions. Six of thirty-six clinical study patients dropped out of the Fibronol study due to aggravation of their IBS (i.e., diarrhea) symptoms. Thus it is possible that Fibronol may negatively impact your IBS symptoms. If these conditions arise, we recommend that you consider replacing some or all of your Fibronol dosing with FibroBoost -- which does not include any magnesium or aloe vera and contains only SEANOL (the primary Fibronol active ingredient). FibroBoost will deliver many of the same benefits of Fibronol. However, fibromyalgia patients with pre-existing IBS conditions should gradually build up their dosage levels of Fibronol and/or FibroBoost to avoid potential aggravation of their IBS symptoms and understand their individual dosage thresholds or tolerances. Other than these potential IBS consequences, we are not aware of any negative impact from taking Fibronol. |
I am currently taking an anti-depressant. Is it safe to take Fibronol (or FibroBoost) if I am on anti-depressants? |
Yes it is safe. Specifically, we are unaware of any drug-nutraceutical adverse interactions. However, whenever you are taking prescription drugs, you should inform your physician of any additional medications or supplements you are planning to take. We believe that through the biological mechanisms associated with better sleep patterns, the body will naturally increase serotonin levels which is what most anti-depressants, particularly the selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, also do. Fibronol is not expected to have any negative impact associated with taking it simultaneously with an anti-depressant and might even have a positive impact on general energy levels, sleep patterns and mood. A good deal of fibromyalgia patients’ depression is increasingly believed to be linked to the chronically sleep-deprived state of the patient.
Will Fibronol or FibroBoost keep me awake at night? |
No. You might expect the opposite result. Even though both products appear to result in added energy and less fatigue in most individuals, it is not a stimulant and has absolutely no caffeine in it. It will tend to help most people achieve better sleep patterns, energy levels and comfort, but it is not an anti-histamine and will not cause, by itself, drowsiness. For the majority of positive responders on Fibronol, the typical patient gained an extra 1-2 hours of sleep/night, with improved quality of sleep (i.e., fewer interruptions, less restlessness, and the ability to achieve deep, REM sleep). Some individuals even experienced much larger gains in both sleep and energy under Fibronol dosing. |
Are Fibronol and FibroBoost safe for pregnant women and children?
None of the ingredients in Fibronol or FibroBoost – SEANOL, malic acid, aloe vera, magnesium, and vitamin B-1 – are expected to impose any risk for pregnant women or their fetuses. The magnesium may aggravate a sensitive bowel and possibly increase any predisposition towards diarrhea. We always recommend that pregnant women consult with their physician before adding any new supplements to their routine.
Teen-agers may use either product. Younger children would not be expected to be taking Fibronol or FibroBoost. However, even if a child accidentally ingested a few capsules, there should not be any serious side effects.
Why are Fibronol and FibroBoost so expensive? |
The key ingredient used in Fibronol and FibroBoost, SEANOL, is a very expensive raw material due to the extensive extraction process used to achieve high purity in polyphenol/phlorotannin content. It is more expensive in its pure form than many precious metals by weight. JP Renew Distributors LLC also uses the highest quality rated contract manufacturers who are the safest but also some of the most expensive producers. In time, should the cost of SEANOL come down significantly, we will be able to lower the price -- but we have no indication of that happening anytime soon.
We also hope that by taking Fibronol and FibroBoost, most fibromyalgia patients can get by with fewer drugs and supplements and potentially end up reducing their total expenditures for medications and supplements through the regular use of Fibronol and FibroBoost. From a quality of life perspective, if regular dosing on these products can add an average of two “good” days/week, an extra 1-2 hours of sleep per night, improve overall quality of sleep (as validated in our clinical studies), plus effect an increase in overall comfort, each person should determine whether these improvements in symptoms justify their purchase of Fibronol and/or FibroBoost. |
Are Fibronol and FibroBoost covered by medical insurance? |
| Not at this time. Like most dietary supplements and nutraceuticals, we would not expect Fibronol and FibroBoost to initially be covered by any kind of medical insurance. |
